GLOBALG.A.P. APPROVED CERTIFICATION BODIES
Quality and integrity of the highest level
Certification body approval
Certification bodies (CBs) that want to become GLOBALG.A.P. approved must be ISO/IEC 17065–accredited for the relevant standard (such as the Integrated Farm Assurance standard (IFA)), the scope (e.g., crops, aquaculture), and the sub-scope (e.g., fruit and vegetables).
This must be achieved through an accreditation body which is a member of the International Accreditation Forum and signatory of the Multilateral Recognition Arrangement on product certification. All of these accreditation bodies have been subject to a peer evaluation in the product certification field and have received a positive recommendation in the resulting report.
The GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat signs license and certification agreements with only those CBs that successfully pass the GLOBALG.A.P. internal approval process. The agreements and the accreditation ensure a high level of standardized quality and integrity of CBs’ procedures.
Some CBs have been approved for more than one standard and scope.

Key performance indicators for CBs
In 2017, a series of key performance indicators (KPIs) was developed to measure the performance of CBs and present the information to the public. The KPIs were developed together with the CBs and include scores on integrity assessments, complaint management, database management, and administrative issues.
The KPIs are published on the GLOBALG.A.P. website and are updated every six months. These criteria are reflected in a five-star rating system, with one star for poorest performance and five stars for best performance.

There were 189 approved CBs worldwide by the end of 2021. Their headquarter locations are shown on the map. Please note that CBs may also operate internationally outside the country in which their headquarters are located.

TRAINING FOR CbS
Maintaining excellence
GLOBALG.A.P. conducts regular workshops for GLOBALG.A.P. approved CBs. These are designed for auditors, inspectors, in-house trainers, and scheme managers, who must fulfill certain qualification requirements.
Every GLOBALG.A.P. approved CB must appoint:
- A scheme manager, who must attend an annual scheme manager update training.
- An in-house trainer, who is responsible for training the CB’s auditors and inspectors. In-house trainers are scope-specific and must attend an in-house trainer training, as well as pass a test on the content of the standard for every standard version.
If a scheme manager and/or in-house trainer does not comply with any of the GLOBALG.A.P. qualification requirements – including the training described above – the CB is blocked in the GLOBALG.A.P. database and cannot issue certificates.
All GLOBALG.A.P. approved auditors and inspectors responsible for auditing the quality management systems (QMSs) of producer groups and multisite producers must attend a QMS auditor training and pass a test on how to audit the QMS.
In addition, all GLOBALG.A.P. approved auditors and inspectors must pass an online test on the content of the normative documents of the standards, scopes, and sub-scopes that they are approved to audit according to the latest standard version. Auditors or inspectors who do not pass the online tests for the scopes and sub-scopes they are registered for – or the QMS training in the case of auditors – are blocked in the GLOBALG.A.P. database and cannot perform audits/inspections.

Scheme manager update training
This training focuses on CB operational issues and updates for scheme managers and also provides an opportunity to clarify technical questions. It is neither scope– nor standard–specific. In 2021, 14 scheme manager update trainings took place. All were conducted online.
