GLOBALG.A.P. – Putting food safety and sustainability on the map
G.A.P. stands for Good Agricultural Practices and GLOBALG.A.P. is the worldwide standard that assures it.
We are a global organization with a crucial objective: safe, sustainable agriculture worldwide. GLOBALG.A.P. is a trademark and a set of standards for the certification of agricultural products around the globe – and more and more producers, suppliers, and buyers are harmonizing their certification standards to match our company’s purpose.
OUR COMPANY´S PURPOSE
Every generation has a right to safe food, and farmers should be empowered to provide it. We support farmers by connecting them to markets where they can sell their safely and sustainably produced agricultural products. We do this by developing and implementing farm assurance systems that are based on facts and recognized across the supply chain.
WELCOME LETTERS
GUY CALLEBAUT
Chairman of the GLOBALG.A.P. Board
As the industry Board, we set the plan – and the GLOBALG.A.P. team have delivered once again, both in financial and operational terms. I wish to congratulate and thank the entire GLOBALG.A.P. team on behalf of the Board.
2019 was the year of enlarging our Board to add members from Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. We now have a governance structure with world-wide representation, elected democratically by our members. We believe that this structure is one of the reasons why we experienced a record of 75 new members joining last year – nine of which are new retail members. We are observing growing recognition of our harmonized assurance and certification solutions for farmers to access local and global markets.
Last year the Board set the framework for the revision of GLOBALG.A.P.’s flagship standard – Integrated Farm Assurance –, which is now underway. The revision process seeks to simplify and customize the standard for producers by addressing all relevant food safety risks in an adequate way. This new version 6 will also see a move to a modular structure.
Another major achievement has been the development and adoption of the GLOBALG.A.P. Residue Monitoring System. The concept was unanimously agreed upon, with an approach that is unique in the sector: We are not developing our own sampling and analysis operation, but rather we recognize existing residue monitoring systems based on their features, including different models of independent product sampling regimes.
As a member, please take the time to browse through this digital review of our work. As your Board, we welcome your feedback to help us continue providing the best guidance and advice to the GLOBALG.A.P. Management for the coming years. I am convinced that GLOBALG.A.P. has become one of the leading global networks and organizations that have the means and power to manage the necessary transformational processes which our food system will have to undergo in the years to come.
Thank you for your support.
KRISTIAN MOELLER
President / Chief Executive Officer
In 2019 it was not just our Board that became truly global. We also grew our global network of Technical Key Account Managers to a total of 20. This network now covers the majority of crucial regions for the adoption of farm assurance systems, and we continue to add new countries and regions.
To align our growing international and intercultural team, we developed a strong set of five core values which act as a compass for all activities – both internally and externally with stakeholders. These values have now become a major feature to attract new experts and talent.
Our continuous efforts to reduce duplication for farm assurance standards resulted in two important partnerships in 2019: We signed agreements with the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform and the Sustainable Rice Platform to manage their standards, from the training and approval of auditors and verification bodies to the registration of assessed farms in our global database. These two organizations recognized our strength in developing and operating all the processes which are necessary to run a global agricultural standard with a high level of transparency and integrity.
We at GLOBALG.A.P. can only fulfill our purpose with the strong commitment of a large network of industry volunteers. You participate and work in our Committees, Focus Groups, and National Technical Working Groups. Thank you all for serving your industry and offering your expertise to society, to the benefit all of us.

Localg.a.p. LAUNCHES PRIMARY FARM ASSURANCE
In October 2019, localg.a.p. launched the rebranding for its entry-level farm assurance:
Primary Farm Assurance (PFA).
PFA is a key building block for those farmers beginning the journey towards certification and access to demanding markets. It helps producers (in particular smallholder producers or producers who are new to standards) to adopt good agricultural practices which – in turn – improve the efficiency of farm management, cut exposure to food safety risks, ensure compliance with legislation on food safety, and enable access to local and regional markets.
PFA will replace all localg.a.p. ready-to-use programs by October 2020. It is available in two levels (foundation and intermediate) and available for the following sub-scopes: Fruit and Vegetables, Combinable Crops, and Plant Propagation Material.
