localg.a.p. is a verified capacity-building tool specifically designed by GLOBALG.A.P. for agricultural supply chains in developing economies and emerging markets. It is intended to help producers, especially small-scale and emerging producers, adopt good agricultural practices that can improve the efficiency of farm management, cut exposure to food safety risks, and comply with legislation on food safety. Through these steps, producers can gain increased access to local and regional markets.
2020 Highlights
- localg.a.p. Primary Farm Assurance (PFA) v5 became obligatory from October 2020, replacing all previous localg.a.p. programs.
- An additional level, namely the localg.a.p. Entry Level (only for sub-scope FV) was added. The Entry Level is the lowest PFA level, and has been specifically developed for small-scale producers that only supply local markets. Some of the control points have been simplified and less documentation isrequired to fit this level of producer much better. However, it still covers the most basic food safety and traceability requirements to ensure the building blocks relating to basic food safety principles are established early on.
- The proof is in the pudding! In 2020, three of the Mopani Rural Hub farmers who have been working with the localg.a.p program in South Africa since 2016 achieved full GLOBALG.A.P. certification! Congratulations to all involved!
